Your Dreams Are Closer Than You Think

In 2018, I embarked on a journey that would redefine my understanding of success. As a young poet still finding my voice, I entered the Bahamas Poetry Competition and received an honorable mention. To many, it was a small recognition. To me, it was proof of concept, a quiet confirmation from God that I was on the right path. In fact, I was humbled and greatly appreciative. That simple recognition ignited a vision that has fueled me for seven years.

The following year, 2019, came and went without a finalist placement. Yet, again, I wasn’t deterred. I had come to understand that every step forward matters, even the ones that seem small or go unnoticed. The path to excellence isn’t always a straight line. I took a pause in 2021, understanding that a step back can be a strategic move forward. Yet, through every season of apparent silence, I was doing the work. My words grew sharper. My vision matured. I wasn’t just writing; I was honing the discipline and mindset required for peak performance.

Fast-forward to today. After years of dedicated practice and unwavering focus, the moment finally arrived. This time, it wasn’t just a submission—it was a declaration of my refined skill and a testament to the power of a resilient mindset. With a theme of "The Strength of A Woman," my work found its place on the national stage, earning me a spot as a top 13 (3 men and 10 women) finalist out of 100 entries. I was then named the 2025 Bahamas Poetry National Grand Champion—by unanimous decision.

This win isn’t just an accolade; it’s a living testament to the principles I share as a mindset coach and motivational speaker/spoken word artist. My journey shows that a dream no matter how small its beginning can lead to the highest honor with the right guidance, a strong will, and the belief that you can overcome any obstacle. I thank God for the gift, the tenacity, and the lessons in every season of this journey.
